Immediate Execution
Unlike desktop operating systems where you click "Apply" or "Save" for settings to take effect, Cisco IOS applies commands typed in Global Configuration mode instantly to the running-config in RAM. If you change an IP address or shut down an interface, it happens the exact millisecond you press the Enter key.
