4.0 IP Services
Accounting for 10% of the CCNA exam, this domain focuses on the operational services that make networks manageable and functional, including address translation, time synchronization, and logging.

MSP Critical Focus: NAT & Relays
While the CCNA tests on the theory of QoS and SNMP, you will configure NAT (Port Forwarding) and DHCP Relays (IP Helpers) almost daily at an MSP. Make sure you fully understand the difference between inside local, inside global, outside local, and outside global addresses.
Study Modules
4.1 Network Address Translation (NAT)
PlannedConfigure Inside Source NAT. Master Static NAT (1-to-1 mapping) and PAT/Overload (many-to-1) for internet access.
4.2 Network Time Protocol (NTP)
PlannedConfigure routers to act as NTP clients and servers. Understand why precise time sync is critical for Syslog and cryptography.
4.3 DHCP & DNS Roles
PlannedExplain the role of DHCP and DNS within the network. Master the 'ip helper-address' command for DHCP Relay over Layer 3 boundaries.
4.4 SNMP & Syslog
PlannedUnderstand Simple Network Management Protocol (v2c/v3) operations and interpret Syslog severity levels (0-7).
4.5 Quality of Service (QoS)
PlannedDescribe Per-Hop Behavior (PHB). Compare classification, marking, queuing, congestion, policing, and shaping.
4.6 Remote Access & File Transfer
PlannedConfigure SSH for secure CLI access. Use TFTP and FTP for backing up configurations and upgrading Cisco IOS images.
